Birken Forest Buddhist Monastery
7000 Smith Lake Forest Service Road is a Buddhist Monastery south of Kamloops, slightly south of Roche Lake Provincial Park. In 2001, a growing commnity of monastics from Princeton, BC moved to this location and began building and improving it.
Timeline:
2001: Birken’s growing community of monastics and lay supporters relocate from near Princeton BC to its current location.
2001-Present: Improvements occured to bring the monastery to a high level of energy efficiency. It has become a model of simple, green monasticism.
