2165 Parkcrest Avenue

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

2165 Parkcrest Avenue is a large church owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located across the street from Parkcrest Elementary School. It was built by them in the 1970s and has received a few significant updates. This building is not one of the organization's temples, so everyone is welcome to visit it.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints designed the building with growth in mind, using a phased construction plan. As the congregation grew and needed space to run the Church’s programs, phases were added:

• -Phase 1 is a small meeting hall with a couple of offices and classrooms.
• -Phase 2 includes a large meeting hall with overflow seating.
• -Phase 3 includes a gymnasium, stage, classrooms, and offices.
• -Local legend maintains that there was a Phase 4 planned which would include more office and classroom space for regional leadership, once needed.

Currently, phases 1, 2, and 3 have been constructed.

Along with its more well-known preaching missionary program, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints once operated a "labour missionary" program. Similar to a preaching mission, volunteers would dedicate two years of their life to travel where they were needed and build church-owned buildings like temples and meetinghouses. The Kamloops building was constructed by a mixture of these labour missionaries and local, experienced members who were contracted to help.

The building is currently used by two congregations of Latter-day Saints:

• Kamloops 1st Ward
• Kamloops 2nd Ward

The Kamloops Family History Centre is housed inside the building.
